THE LEGENDARY MEL CARTER COMES TO PITTSBURGH
Legendary singer Mel Carter, regularly seen on the PBS Doo Wop programs
singing "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me," will be performing live in the
intimate 70 seat symphony room at the THE RENAISSANCE PITTSBURGH HOTEL
(107 Sixth Street, Pittsburgh, PA - tkts: 412-394-3353 - http://www.proartstickets.org/
) on Friday, April 18th with two show at 7:30 and 9:30 pm. He will be

"Unforgettable," "Love is All We Need," coupled with a blues medley,
hits medley and special tribute medley. He is joined by Tony DePaolis
on Bass, Michael Murray on Piano, and Thomas Wendt on Drums.
Carter's career spans over 40 years, having first been
discovered by Quincy Jones who signed Mel to record his debut pop
session on Mercury Records. Eventually, Sam Cooke signed Mel to Derby
Records which yielded Mel's first hit single "When A Boy Falls in
Love" which climbed the charts in England as well as in the U.S. reaching
the number one position on the West Coast. A string of other hit songs
led to an offer to tour with the Dick Clark Caravan of Stars where
he shared the bill with other up and coming performers of the day,
including Sonny and Cher, Tom Jones and other popular English and
American recording artists.
Immensely versatile, Mel has performed in almost every
entertainment medium including television comedy, drama and variety,
film, stage, nightclub, concerts, special events, commercials and
industrials. Mel co-produced his 1985 album, "Willing," which won
him a Grammy nomination for "Best Male Gospel Performance." That same
year brought him brilliant reviews and awards including "L.A. Weekly's"
La Wee and an NAACP Image Award nomination for Best Performance in
a Musical as a result of his starring role in "Glitter Palace."
Mel has played standing room only engagements at Trump
Castle, London's Royal Albert Hall, Taj Mahal and Merv Griffin's Resort
Casino Hotel in Atlantic City. He has established himself as a modern
day renaissance man who has proven that real and genuine talent will
always find an audience, regardless of the current trends, radio formats
or fashions. Throughout the course of his career, Mel has re-defined
the term "multi talented" and truly established himself as a legend
in pop music.
The series is presented by CABARET PITTSBURGH (http://www.cabaretpgh.org/
). Tickets are $45 and include entertainment, hors d'oeuvres and beverage.
