CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE'S
FAVORITE SHOWS OF 2O11
"Top 10 Best of Cabaret" lists that have been popping up this month in various cabaret publications. Now there is no way I can possibly list THE BEST cabaret events of 2011, since I didn't see them all, and it is quite possible that many others were better than the ones I list here. For example, I was unable to catch any of Mark Nadler's shows in 2011, but I have heard terrific reports (including from both CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE CRITICS - Sue Matsuki and Mona Finston). There were several others that received high praise that I missed.
To create this list I went to my journal and jotted down every show seen since January 1, 2011, omitting duplicates (when I really love a show, I often go a second time). Then I went through the list and gave each one a rating from 1 to 5. It took several run-throughs, exacerbated by the fact that I was on a tight budget all year and was quite selective when choosing shows I attended. Tried as I might, I couldn't trim the list to 10 and ended up with 20! Then I added 2 extra shows in an special category and one show I chose as favorite with a special caveat. The list is in ALPHABETICAL order - do not assume a ranking based on the position on the list.
