A
Championship Season (con't)
Down
on Sheridan Square, The Duplex booking manager Thomas Honeck presents
a long list of new talent. I'll have more on The Duplex in the next
column as Thomas was called out of town due to family illness.. However,
I want to note that co-owner Tony DiCicco is presenting, "Listening
to You. I Get the Music." This is a father's perspective on raising
a son with autism through personal stories and songs from The who's
"Tommy." The shows are on Sundays in September at 5:00.
After
Dark Around Town: It was inevitable. The question is, why
did it take so long? In the early spring, prodigious entertainer Mark
Nadler will make his Broadway solo debut! With "Grey Gardens"
producer Michael Alden, Mark will present an expanded
version of his sold out solo show that began several years ago at
The FireBird Cafe. The lawyers are all fine tuning all the details
for what promises to be the most exciting success story to come out
of cabaret since Peter Allen (whom I compared Mark to many years ago.)
... The worst kept secret in town is that Don't Tell Mama
has been sold. The change will take place in November and the good
news is that the new owners will continue with business as usual.
Much more will follow on this in the coming weeks ... And, heres a
teaser, I'm sitting on a major story that involves THREE new cabaret
venues opening in the coming months (and possibly a fourth!!!) I am
not allowed to reveal more at this time. When the time is right, Stu
Hamstra will have the exclusive announcement ... Like I said, the
season is not shabby at all - and there's more news on the way. Stay
tuned ... And heres sending best wishes out to jazz icon Blossom
Dearie who is recovering from recent minor surgery. See you
in the clubs!
