SAD
NEWS: THEATER DISTRICT
RESTAURANT / CABARET OWNER
SAM SAPIENZA, 71

Sam Sapienza, 71, owner
of SAM'S RESTAURANT (263 West 45th Street, NYC - 212-719-5416) died
suddenly on Thursday, May 3rd. This popular eatery has been a mainstay
in the NY theater district for many years, frequented by show folk.
Sam hosted many benefits especially for BROADWAY CARES/EQUITY FIGHTS
AIDS and matched the contributions from each benefit.
He referred to West 45th
Street as "Dream Street" because of the hopes and dreams associated
with the Broadway theaters lining the block. Currently, Sam's presents
DREAM STREET CABARET REVUE (10:30 pm - 12:30 am) with the singing
staff performing after the featured show. The show was nominated for
a 2000 MAC award. A show devoted to the songs of Nan Knighton christened
the room in 1999. Ken Lundie operates the cabaret portion of Sam's.
The family asked that in
lieu of flowers, contributions be made in Sam's name to the American
Cancer Society or BROADWAY CARES/EQUITY FIGHTS AIDS. There was wake
on May 5th and 6th and a funeral on Monday, May 7th from Becker Funeral
Home in Westwood, NJ.
